Overall length 13 - 18mm. A fairly large, black and yellow, dimorphic species. There are several other similar species so care should be taken with identification.
Rough grassland, hedgerows and post-industrial sites. The larvae develop in Large Yellow Underwing and Setaceous Hebrew Character caterpillars.
Status and distribution
Not well recorded in Britain, most records coming from the Midlands. Possibly under-recorded in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.

April to June and September.
