Common Furrow Bee

Lasioglossum calceatum

Description

Body length 8 - 11mm. The females are dull brown with narrow pale bands on the abdomen. The males can be dark or with extensive red on the abdomen.

Habitat

Various habitats with light soils to make the nest in. They visit a wide range of flowers.

Status and distribution

Locally common and widespread over much of Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

March to October.
