Peregrine – 22nd January

This morning both Peregrines were on the new pylon. Two Ravens flew over the Slurry Lagoon towards the Enva plant and an Egyptian Goose flew over towards the north. PS.

Later a Goosander was seen on the river. RJP.

In the afternoon the Bearded Reedlings were heard on the east side of the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed and a Pink-footed Goose was seen with the Greylag flock across the river. MC.

Whimbrel – 18th August

This morning the Peregrine was on the new pylon. One Black-tailed Godwit was on the Slurry Lagoon with about forty Lapwings and a Water Rail skipped across in front of the bench. A flock of fourteen Whimbrel flew over the site to the south-west and a cream-top Marsh Harrier flushed all of the gulls as it quartered the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed before dropping into the reeds, where it stayed. A Green Sandpiper and a Redshank were on the Ecopark, the Redshank later visiting the Slurry Lagoon. Sedge and Willow Warblers were seen and heard along with Whitethroat, young Blackcaps and plenty of Chiffchaffs.  IEP.

Arctic Tern – 21st April

This morning, an Arctic Tern was briefly over the Deep Pit (9am) before flying off south-east. A Garden Warbler was singing and showing well by the river near the railway bridge and a Grasshopper Warbler was reeling below the bench at the north-end of the Pylon Path, below the pylon. Reed Warblers were heard in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed and a Raven was over the Slurry Lagoon. Two Peregrines were on the new pylon, one brought prey in, which was not far of its own size. Whooper Swan – 19th January

This morning there were seven Whooper Swans on the Deep Pit. They had probably spent the night there and had gone by 08.30. There was also a flock of about 20 Lesser Redpolls in a Deep Pit birch tree and a Peregrine was on the new pylon again. PS.

In the evening there were about 10,000 Starlings at the roost , eight more Whooper Swans were seen flying NW and a Tawny Owl was calling from the Deep Pit bank. PR.
