Caspian Gull – 3rd January

A first winter Caspian Gull was amongst the gulls at the Enva site this morning and Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and Little Egret were along the Ouse Dyke. MC.

The pair of Peregrines were on the new pylon, three male and two female Goldeneye were on the Large Gravel Pit. PS.

Jack Snipe – 3rd January

The Jack Snipe was showing well on the Wader Scrape again today. Two Ravens were also seen. BB.

Pintail – 3rd January

Happy New Year

This morning a drake Pintail touched down briefly on the Slurry Lagoon and the two Stonechats were together on the Wader Scrape. There were five Little Egrets and a herd of about forty Mute Swans across the river, upstream from the Railway Bridge, and a small flock of mixed Redwings and Song Thrushes on the Wader Scrape, with another four Song Thrushes singing around the reserve. Five Cetti’s Warblers were heard and eleven Golden-eye were on the Large Gravel Pit. PS.

Bitterns – 3rd January

Two Bitterns were found today in the Deep Pit, one giving prolonged views as it crouched within a reedbed, and a Cetti’s Warbler was seen flying from the Deep Pit towards the Haven. The triangular field at the Deep Pit’s northern end which is full of seeding Fat Hen has a flock of approx. 20 Reed Buntings and contains some Tree Sparrows. PS.
