Tachinid Fly

Eurithia anthophila

Description

Over all length 8 - 14mm. This species has a metallic blue body. The wings have a yellow suffusion at their base and the head has a ruff of stiff bristle-like hairs.

Habitat

Woodland edge and hedgerows.

Status and distribution

Shows a markedly southern distribution. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

August to September.
